After consecutively finishing third in the previous two Pro Kabaddi league seasons, Puneri Paltan is in it to win it this time around. At the recently held press conference of the team to unveil the jersey and sponsors, Coach BC Ramesh and Captain Deepak Niwas Hooda shared their strategy that will catapult the team towards success.
With the League just a few days away, Coach Ramesh feels the team has a healthy mix of young and seasoned players who will perform in the league this season. Deepak Hooda, better known as the Raiding machine, has been retained for season 5. All rounders Sandeep Narwal, Umesh Mhatre and Ajay and Raiders like More GB, Monu, Akshay Jadhav and Suresh Kumar have come on board. Players like Vikash Khatri, Rinku Narwal, Takamitsu Kono and Ziaur Rahman will add to the strong defense for the Paltan. According to Coach Ramesh, each of these players, young, or new, experienced or rookies, bring their own uniqueness to the team, as far as skill set is concerned. “Being a good human makes you do wonders. I guess that is what matters in the end. To win the matches, you need to be a true player and these are some of the best and most humble players I have ever worked with. This indeed is our strength, and I am sure this will benefit us at large.” said Coach, on what is the team’s strength.
A host of seasoned players like Sandeep Narwal, Girish Ernak, Rajesh Mondal and Dharmaraj Cheralathan will bring in the maturity and experience needed for a crucial balance to the team.
Deepak Hooda, Captain for this season, talked about how working together is very important for the Paltan, now more than ever. “So close yet so far, is what aptly defines our team. Last two seasons, we finished third. But this year, it will be different. The title will be ours.” Said Hooda, on what’s in store in the future. As the league date closes in, Hooda feels intense training, team building exercises and situation practice have brought helped the players develop their sport further. His belief is that the constant love and support of the fans is what will drive the team to train harder and rock this season of Pro Kabaddi. Having always been an aggressive player, he has stepped into the shoes of a leader and is quite natural at it.
