Victors of Maharashtra Derby

Puneri Paltan squashed UMumba in the entirety of the 40-minute match to win 33-21 . By winning the very first match of the season, the Puneri Paltan have shown how ready and serious the team is to grab the cup this season.

Starting with an interesting lineup of Deepak Hooda, Sandeep Narwal, Girish Ernak, Dharamraj Cheralathan, Ravi Kumar, Rajesh Mondal and More GB, we won the match showing amazing teamwork, athleticism, and sportsmanship.  Having three defenders and Deepak & Sandeep as all rounders made defense a strong point for us, which was used to our advantage as the match progressed. Showing great display of teamwork, players were pouncing on Umumba raiders like there’s no tomorrow.

The match boasted of some amazing highlights from the Paltan, including captain Deepak Hooda’s Super Raid, Sandeep Narwal as usual delivered a stellar performance and Dharmaraj and Rajesh Mondal were on fire, tackling UMumba forces.

U Mumba Captain Anup Kumar was dismissed multiple times during the match, which had an impact on the team, which relies heavily on their captain. Top raiders from the UMumba camp failed miserably in getting raid points, with the exception of their captain. Though Deepak Hooda, Sandeep Narwal, and More GB swept off awards, the whole team performed exceptionally throughout the match, which shows the amount of training that has gone behind making the team a pillar of strength, true to the Maratha spirit that is synonymous with Pune.

The journey is not yet over if we’re to go by the words of captain Deepak Hooda.  ‘There is more to come from us. Expect our defence to be this in every game of the season. There will be no letting up’ are his words. Their game oozed of clever strategy and strong defense and raiding tactics. But there’s more to come, and this is just the beginning. The Paltan are here to win the cup this season and nothing less!
